I... think I'm caught up with Dreamwidth? If you were expecting a reply from me, let me know because I missed it! The exception is the replies to my latest K-9 translation post because I'm saving them for the next time I'm bursting with the need to talk about K-9 with someone and can't find any victim gentleperson to satisfy the hunger.

Whoops ended up talking about K-9 anyway. How does this keep happening??? )

Anyway, writing! WIPs! Status!! I met my GYWO goal in January and February, but sacrificed March to the editing gods. So I've written... 288 words so far 😤😤 Unless I get possessed I am NOT meeting my monthly goal, but that's okay. I've got more stuff to edit!! And some fics ready to post, too.

Edited and ready to go (except for maybe a grammar check and/or... a title orz):

  • Wind Breaker OT4, Chapter 4
  • Chapter 1 for the K-9 LeopardTree fic (it got LONG!)
  • K-9 triple drabble about Ren, because in canon she always seems to wait for injured teenage girls to wake up at the hospital, even at great personal cost (that is, nicotine withdrawal), and I find that interesting
  • Spring Thunder rescue fic about Kagaribi & Co going to Mozu's rescue, together with Mozu's super smart cat :D
  • A BNHA NagantMiruko fic I wrote nearly 3 years ago for an event that turned out not to happen, and I think it might be time to move on

Written, needs editing:

  • Wind Breaker OT5, final chapter
  • K-9 LeopardTree, chapters 2-5

Half-written:

  • Blaaah a bunch but this is a month of editing and I'm not particularly thinking about them

Exquisite CorpseExquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite (240 pages)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don't really know how to rate this. It felt slow to start, but then as I reached the climax, I needed to know. And even then, I wasn't sure who I wanted to. . .not win, but survive maybe.

Definitely grotesque and gory and even poignant in its way.

Like do I suggest you read or warn you not to.

I did a first round of editing to the end, and while in my head the last chapter was clunky (probably because I've changed direction on it about 3 times now), actually I was giggling and hiding my mouth behind my hand through most of it so I think it's okay :D The final sentence/paragraph however is clunky and doesn't work super well, but I have a bit of time to figure out something else.

Each chapter has a different PoV as each character figure some things out, and I like the story and how they all gravitate toward each other. However, the tone and narration are a bit distant, maybe a bit flat. It's the same mistake? flaw? that I saw in my OT3/multi-polyship Kn8 fic, where I was also spending a lot of brain power on "How would these characters fit together?". Maybe this is expected for the first few fics with a new ship. When I compare with DabiHawks for which I've written well over 100 fics (and over 200 with Hawks!), obviously I can't nail every nuance and subtlety of their emotions as easily. Yet. Anyway I still think there's good in there and I'm happy I wrote this :D I enjoy these characters so much.

Acting on instinct | Wind Breaker | Sakura/Nirei/Suou/Kiryuu/Tsugeura | 2.8k words (WIP, 3/5) | rated T

Summary: Something shifted for them all in that moment at Kiryuu's house. They all felt it. But Kiryuu was missing for it, so they can't do anything about it.

Not yet.

Read it on Dreamwidth or on AO3.

Watching the live-action movie motivated me to finally edit this fic! It doesn't actually work with the movie timeline and heavily relies on anime-only elements, but it is done :D

Locked in orbit | Let's go karaoke! | Kyouji/Satomi | 1.8k words | rated T

Summary: Kyouji has been in this time loop for a long time now, meeting Satomi and growing closer over and over, trying to keep him safe. Failing, sometimes. Those are the Bad Loops. If he plays his cards right though, Kyouji hopes he can make this loop the final one.

Read it on Dreamwidth or on AO3.

Finished "You Deserve Good Gelato" by Kacie Rose and I loved it. Now I'm working on "Exquisite Corpse" by Poppy Z Brite. It's a vastly different subject and fiction. A friend I made in the Sleep Token fandom who's friendship has now extended beyond it recommended it. It's very dark and gruesome and gory, so read at your own risk.

Last update: 3/12/2026 (Added the next little phrase, "but let's give it a try!")

Nobody will care about this but whatever, it's getting posted. I believe I specifically ordered this book instead of stumbling on it, unlike the other Japanese books nobody cares about. Someone who'd lived in Japan recommended it to me because I'm a depressed/anxious type of person with a whole lot of issues and so were they, and they thought it was helpful. But I really wasn't close with the three people I knew who'd been to Japan in college, but I also definitely bought it during my college years, so I don't remember who recommended it to me at all. Oh well. It's a book I have that has a pretty low reading level, so Imma read it and post it. It's basically a bunch of affirmations, cognitive behavioral therapy style. You're missing a lot without the cute illustrations though, seriously.

The book is technically three parts. The brief introduction, and then two sections of different sorts of affirming phrases. So I'm just gonna have three cuts here (well, two, until I get to the second part). It'll be weird that the introduction is all alone like that but whatever. Each phrase is also short so this should feed my desire for feelings of accomplishment pretty well. Let's goo!

"You've got something there," Green motions to Black's chest, which has a splat of dark liquid across it.

"It's… oil. From the, you know. The rear axial. Distributor." He waves at a panel on the wall, a panel which Green thought was an extra trash chute, but evidently not.

"Thanks," Green says, and means it. "Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one who actually cares about getting us all out of here alive, you know?"

Still a favorite fic of arahir's. Never played the game but watched a few playthrough's on YT for context AFTER I read the fic and read a few others for fun after this. A classic, for sure.

For my Karaoke Iko people out there, the Let's Go Karaoke movie live-action is available on the Japanese Film Festival website until June 3rd (JST)! Hopefully for your region, too.

If you're not familiar, I can also warmly recommend the 5 episode anime that's on Crunchyroll, if you have access.

I haven't read the manga or its sequel yet but I'm sure they're great fun too ;)

It's been super interesting to watch the movie after the anime and see the tweaks in the adaptation!! I think it all worked really well and I enjoyed it a lot. If you've also watched both (or any!!!!) you should talk to me actually :D

You Deserve Good GelatoYou Deserve Good Gelato by Kacie Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I highly enjoyed reading this. It was heartfelt, funny in places, poignant, genuine, and overall lovely. Sometimes you follow people on social media and the face they present to the world is a mask, but Kacie is who she has always presented herself to be and I appreciate that so much.

This all started with Shellsharks sharing thoughts on what the "human web" is. This then led to Brennan Day attempting to redefine the indie web based on a separate set of principles. Both articles are really good and absolutely worth reading, nor can I say that either them are wrong (or right!) in their posts.

But they did get me thinking... How do I want to see "indie web" and the like defined?

After seeing so many different ways people have used indieweb, smallweb, ect. I think I have come to a conclusion.

And that conclusion is we are over-thinking this and providing too narrow of definitions.

The fact that "indieweb/smallweb/etc." (henceforth just "indieweb") has no solid meaning across groups of people means it is not currently all that useful as a term. Everyone will end up reading and interpreting it differently when it's used to describe a site or community or whatever. And so many definitions I come across ultimately end up excluding sites that also describe themselves as indie. But of course, there must be something that makes the indieweb the indieweb when compared to stuff like YouTube and Facebook.

To me, what counts as indieweb is very simple and very broad: a web independent from capitalistic interests, based on personal websites, reference sites, and small project sites (and similar sites that I'm probably failing to think of!). A web independent from shareholders, sensational algorithms, surveillance, etc. That's all. If you host your website with a service like Neocities, cool! You're indie. Use a VPS? Fully self host? Just as indie! Hand code every last bit? Use a static site generator? Or a content management system? All indie, and all fair ways to make a site. Use traditional HTTPS? Use Gopher or Gemini protocol instead? All equally indie. The indieweb simply exists as a opposite (but not nessisarily the only opposite) to the corporate web.

As Brennan mentioned, there will always be dependencies. We will always be reliant on registrars for our domains. Some VPSs are more corporate than others. So on and so forth. But getting away from the corporate web itself does so much for people that I think making that the core of it is plenty enough.

And the only reason I specify "based on personal websites, reference sites, small project sites, etc." is because, while generally opposite to the corporate web (if managed properly), forums and fediverse are more social focused and thus not indie in my opinion.

Of course, these are all just my thoughts. I recognize my definition is fairly broad and the one exception fairly arbitrary. I think this is something the indie web is still trying to figure out, so I'd be very curious what everyone else thinks!

Chapter 12 and on of the Concrete Revolutio novel. The first 11 chapters can be found here.

I decided to split my translation of the novel here, not because I was running into any character limits, but because it was getting seriously annoying to navigate it unless you were viewing it on the journal itself with all cuts intact, rather than the actual post that people can link to where all the cuts are automatically expanded. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry about it. And as for the usual disclaimers I mentioned in the previous post, that had the first 11 chapters of the novel, there's no way there aren't mistakes in my translation. Hopefully any errors that are actually important will become clear to me before I'm done, but hoping for a thing doesn't magically make it reality. I'm just doing my best in the moment while still ultimately focusing on getting it out there. I can and will edit it later anyway. Anyway, time for the second third of Superhuman Phantasmagoria: Shinka 36!

So. I am wayyyyyyy off on my schedule this evening. I ended up staying late at work trying to finish a report because it's due the day I get back from my mini-vacation this weekend. I took Friday through Tuesday off and the report needs to be returned Wednesday. I have the majority of it completed but there are these four accounts I have to resolve altogether and it's a pain in the ass. And on that note, it's typical that I plan to be out of office for 3 days plus 2 weekend days and I suddenly get inundated with the work I wanted to have the week or two weeks prior. Typical. I have a few items (over 100) to key tomorrow, which in theory shouldn't take that long, but I still have to finish the report among other things. If push comes to shove, I can finish the report up Wednesday by end of business and send it out, I'd just prefer not to.

And then. . .  )

Trying to make posting here more of a daily habit so it's been written into my schedule that I want to have and that I'm trying to have. So, hi, once again.

Set up all my monthly posts so if you're curious, here is my Read in March 2026 post and my To Do List - March 2026. I'll try to remember to post them at the end of what posts I make for easy finding (as if it's something anyone really wants to see hahaha - sigh). I added a few private posts, such as the daily schedule I'm trying to keep as well as fully fleshed out my 2026 goals post. I'll reveal the schedule at the end of March if it works, or if it changes. And the goals one will be for the end of the year, when I do a recap. Some things I want to keep to myself for the time being.

Speaking of my self-proposed schedule, if I don't post on DW on any given day, it's because time ran out. Yesterday I had wanted to post but I was trying to update my calibre fanfiction archive with email updates while the site was up, as well as get some reading done, so I ran out of time. Plus, I was about an hour and a half behind all day with my personal schedule, so I had to move some things around and DW was a casualty.

In reading, which has made a poor showing for me this year, I've been working through Kacie Rose's "You Deserve Good Gelato". She's a travel influencer who kind of fell into it because she met her fiance while on a solo trip to Italy and now lives in Italy with him. I initially had a video of hers come across Tiktok when I first was on it and I've enjoyed her recounting her cross-cultural hilarities and missteps. She has a lovely written voice and she comes through as genuine and funny and relatable. I've enjoyed it and have about 25% left, I think.

I was going to write about my massive music playlist, including artists I love and want to listen to but that will have to wait along with the story of the new exercise/yoga ball I got. Not much today as I was trying again to add more fanfiction to my archive and got delayed getting to my DW update time slot. OH and I should also tell you that despite being an atheist, I've joined a pretty rad bible studies under Monte Mader. It's fascinating. And I'll expound on that later.
